In the year 2012 it is believed that the world is supposedly coming to an end on Dec.21st. It is said that all the planets will line up and that the earth is suppose to rotate in the opposite direction and cause natural disasters to happen such as earthquakes and tsunami's. Meteors are suppose to fall from the sky hitting the earth,which is all speculative theory, just like the movie 2012 is a theory.
In all actuality in the year 2012 is when the Mayan calendar ends, the Mayan calendar is cyclical and it does have names for numbers larger than 13 bactuns, but even if the Mayans did believe the world would come to an end, we have no reason to assume that they had any special knowledge to make this prediction true. Look at technology today verses then, I really don't beleive our scientist are going to lie to us because if the world was going to come to an end they would also not exist.
The planets in the solar system always line up at different times..Every 200 years they all line up and nothing has ever happened. We actually have planets that are supposed to line up June of this year..When the planets align they don't align in a perfect straight line every planet has different angles to it as well as shape, also when planets do align you have some planets on one side of the sun and some on the other side of the sun.. If anything that would happen when the planets line up is you lose gravity for a brief moment on earth.
Remember when we all feared about the year 2000 " Y2K" due to the theories and rumors? People went to stores and stocked up on water and canned goods and fueled up there vehicles absolutely nothing happened ,except a few computer glitches here and there but nothing major. If we fear the rumors and the theories than on Dec. 21,2012 were going to become frightened causing our own disasters amongst ourselves by driving reckless to be with our loved ones and causing accidents and God only knows what else we as humans would do from fearing a rumor.
We have no control over what happens in our solar system , however we do have control over protecting our planet that's called earth by not polluting and trying to keep what we have left of a ozone layer that does protect us. I don't know about you but I'm not going to fear the year 2012 and the theories that go along with it.

Here is the real problem with this article:
The planets totally do *not* line up on December 21, 2012. Most of the planets are somewhat in a jagged line (not close enough to be considered "lined up") but Mars makes the planets form more of a triangle around the sun than a line. Just look at any solar system map...
Come on, wake up and look at the signs. Everything that has been predicted is happening. Oh well. Forgive, love and enjoy our beautiful planet while we are still on this planet alive and well.
We have heard these predictions many time, and nothing ever happens. Remember the little boy who cried wolf in the childs book? Nobody is going to take this stuff seriously anymore.
But live everyday to the fullest, and not in fear.

I'm pretty sure the world's going to end. I've outlined it here. I did make up the facts, but I used a calculator for the numbers.
I don't believe that the work is going to end because in the Bible it says not even the angels of heaven know when the end of time is only god.
Interesting article. This prophecy is good food for thought and debate. I do agree with you that is is really pointless for us to worry about something so huge, that we have no control over. Like life itself. We are a fragile species, and our lives could end any minute, for any reason.
Over the past hundred years there have been many predictions of doom and gloom, and the world ending in a blaze of glory, that did not come to pass.
Cosmologists do concur however, that every 26,000 years our planets do align, and the consequences of that is surely unknown, and unpredictable with any certainty, by anyone living on this earth.
If we look back at the history of our planet and all recent discoveries of civilizations that were probably more advanced than we are today, it gives us pause to wonder what actually happened to them. Perhaps, in the great Cosmic plan, this planet is 'cleansed' every 26,000 years to preserve it. ?? Lord only knows that the way we (as a greedy species) are doing all that we can to destroy it on a daily basis, it will end one way or another, but my prediction is that man will destroy the plant eventually.
Our presence here is proof that even though this might happen, there WILL be survivors to restart this process all over again. I do hope if that is true that our future populations do not carry the same old baggage that this one seems so desperate to cling to.

2012,i see no debunking mostly wishful thinking on you part that it is not true.
The year 2000 scare was a real joke,all one had to do was turn their computers ahead and see for themselves.
On 2012...you could say it is written in stone.So many cultures thousands of years and oceans apart all predicted the same time.
As for scientist not lying to us,why would they tell
us the truth,if they did,panic would start that very day.
Today..earthquakes,sunspots,tsunami,weather changes,and floods not to mention chemtrails.

I believe that 2012 is a complete and utterly facid many will become frantic, the news will talk about it all day, people will panic and nothing will happen. It is yet another way for the consumer to spend money and people to fear , fear itself. If it did happen there is nothing you could do about it anyway but just go with the flow. Good Hub! :)

Do not waste your thoughts on such things that do not make sense. The rotation of the earth will not change direction unless some very large astronomical body from space hit it at the right point to change that direction. A course the earth will probably be completely annihilated if that happen.
